The Department of English commenced its syllogistic march in 1994 and it has been one of few flagship departments of this institution. Since the date of inception, the department has been performing its service for the pupils of the area to contribute the society and nation. The Department offers degree in pass course in semester mode and follows the grading system introduced by Assam University, Silchar in CBCS (choice based credit system) from the Academic session (2018-2019).
Students hailing from various places have been pursuing their studies for Graduate Degrees from this department. The core component of the UG Programme is British Literature, closely followed by courses and papers covering almost all the latest areas of English Studies like American Literature, Indian English Literature, Translation Studies,Grammar, Creative Writing, Communicative English etc. The student of this department actively participated in Inter-college cultural competition like quiz, extempore speech, debate competition and got prizes. Many of the passed out students are engaged in various sectors like Depatment of Education, practising law, national and multinational Companies and also in other professions. The success rate of the students has been very good over the years.
The collection of books in the library aids the students with books of different writers. The emphasis of the department is on developing an interdisciplinary approach in teaching, which broadens the skills and outlooks of students and keep them updated on major socio-cultural issues along with studies in and about English literature and language. This Department also actively takes part in Research related activities through publication of books, articles etc. in English prose, poetry and Language.

The Department of English, S.R. College, recognizes the significance of English language and literature. The Department seeks to make the students adept in the Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing skills in the language and through BA English programme, it seeks to cultivate a taste for literatures in English and to develop their critical thinking. The sole vision and mission of the Department is to enlighten right thinking of learners so that they may contribute greatly and tirelessly for the welfare of humanity.
