The Department of Economics is among one of the oldest eight departments of Satya Ranjan College, which started its journey with Pass course from the year 1994. The Honours program in the subject was introduced in the year 1995. The fundamental objective of the program is to teach students a method of reasoning and to demonstrate its application in the various economic fields. The department follows the UG syllabus of Assam University under which it offers courses in Economics like B.A (General /Pass) and B.A (Core/Hons) in semester mode and follows grading system introduced by Assam University, Silchar in the CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) from the academic year 2018-2019.
The course, B.A. in economics includes courses like micro and macro-economic theory, Indian economy, International economics, financial economics, statistics for economics mathematical economics, econometric methods, environmental economics, developmental economics etc. These courses provide the fundamental skills that are essential in terms of the theoretical and empirical cum practical aspects of the discipline.
The department has experienced and dedicated faculties. Apart from classroom teaching learning, the department also provides guidance to students for preparing in competitive examinations.
